Though it doesn't seem like this comm is really getting used anymore, even for new arrivals, I'd like to make a quick announcement just so none of you guys get confused XD. (For those of you who don't recognize this journal, hi, 'tis Arc again!)

Before now, Jeff was playing a post-Lost World Tails, and when I expressed interest in coming back, he offered to let me take over his Tails. I accepted, and so I am now playing Tails. The Post-Lost World one, that is, not Smash!Tails that I had played in the past.

That is all, and now back to your regularly scheduled Smashing.

I would like to talk about the future (if it's ok with the mods)

That is, me, Blackjack, and not this dolt for once.

A bit ago Cyrus attempted to hold an election for leadership positions. As it was, there wasn't a lot of feedback and that's ok (also since Eggman was there he probably would have burned the ballot box on principle). This isn't about the posts. This is about how we should talk about it player to player.

Since it's unreasonable to play out every single person voting, let's talk about who our characters would feel should win and potentially plan some stories that way. There should be some campaigns and speeches among whoever would run (and anyone can run), and whatever else people feel appropriate.

Remember, this isn't an ordinary school election. We're in a new world now.

Just...don't imagine that in Cyrus's voice. Trust me.

Time Changes And So Must We - IMPORTANT

Hello Smashies!

After much discussion and weighing the answers received from the previous post, it has come to be that the best and most comfortable course of action for everyone to continue enjoying the home we have grown to enjoy and love over these years is to transition into a Dressing Room Community. This decision didn't come easy and it was only after all resources had been exhausted that it came to be. But this is not the end, simply a transition into a different style of game. It'll still have the theme and the story will be there, but it'll be more relaxed and less taxing on any level. Here's what you can expect:

- No Apps
- More lax environment and world building. The world is yours, shape it how you please and go out and make the place you want to be in!
- Open Comm; we'll be condensing the playing comms into one with !!network, !!action, !!log and !!meme tags to use as you see fit.

There won't be any pause in gameplay as we make the adjustments, so feel free to keep doing what you're doing! We'll mostly be trimming down some pages to lighten things up.

For those that have expressed interest in modship that wish to seriously pursue it, please send a PM to the mansionstaff account!

We want to thank you all for being in this journey with us as it has been an amazingly fun one and we hope we can all continue to do so together, enjoying the home we've grown through closer and make new adventures and memories.

Comment with your name, character, character journal, character canon, and links to activity samples. REMINDER: Activity check is now MONTHLY, as set forth in this post. Please note the dates for acceptable activity, and get a refresher on some of the rule reminders! WHAT COUNTS AS ACTIVITY?

• A post or thread in smashrising, smash_network (When it's up and operational; substantial bulletin board threads with another character will count), or IC inboxes. Activity that occurs over AIM, in journals, musesboxes, or outside of that will NOT count, even if it is Smash-related. What you can do however, is copy that over into one of the acceptable places.

• !!NEW!! Open log starters that show a substantial look at your character's personality will count for 3 comments of your overall total. The community is currently full of logs that would count for this, if you need an example of what's good! This and this are examples of generic log openers that would not count for the extra comments, though the threads inside are just fine!

• If it's just a thread, we're looking for at least 6 comments from you. (So 12 comments if they are talking to someone, and they cannot be 1-2 word exchanges, or icon chains. We need to see your character's voice!) It can be 6 comments in a single thread, or 6 total spread throughout different threads.

• You may provide more than one link if you feel it'll help you pass AC, so long as they fall within the time limits described below.

• If you provided an activity sample in the previous activity check that involves only one other character, you can not use an activity sample this time if it only involves that same character. If you provided an activity sample previously that features multiple characters with yours, you are fine. We're trying to encourage branching out with your CR, that's all.

Puppies are not always fun

Sorry I blinked out on my threads recently. Our puppy thought it'd be a good idea to eat the power cable to the modem. I've been going in circles with my ISP since Saturday trying to get it back up. I'm supposed to be having a tech out tonight to finally get it going again.

Hey, all - to put it simply, I'm in need of a break. This is one of those 'It's not You, it's Me' situations. However, I'm being entirely genuine when I say it!

Because I'm not sure how long of a break I'm going to need, I've dropped. I don't want to character squat or keep people waiting on me for things. I apologize to anyone who I had plans with.

I'll still be around on AIM and Plurk so I'm still reachable. (Saying that, though, if anyone had me added to either one for Smash specifically, no hard feelings if you want to drop my contact. No harm, no foul!)

Bret and Kitsu are fantastic Mods. They do a massive amount of work and there's plenty in store for you guys to look forward to.

Thanks to everyone who spent time playing with my dudes. I hope you had fun! I know I did!

Player Defeated: -2 Pokemon

Hiiiii. Moonbei here with sad news. Lots of things have come up and, at the moment, I've been traveling a lot to spend time with the people I love and cherish. Soon, towards the end of March, I'll be moving to Japan for one year to teach English. Therefore... it brings me much sadness to have to drop Chiyo and Acacia for the time being.

HOWEVER. I WILL BE BACK.

The revamp of the game looks spectacular and I can't wait to get back in on the action. And you know how I could never truly leave this wonderful place. Once a Smasher, always a Smasher. :>

Once I get settled down in Japan and figure out my daily schedule, I'll return to Smash with my babies. I'm hoping to come back in April and I'll do my best to do so. In the meantime, Chiyo and Acacia can enter NPC mode and be diligent, loyal and loving Pokemon to their trainers. Or they can fall into an unknown dimensional space as a result of the total lunar annihilation and be lost in time. idk. That seems dramatic, but anything can happen, right? It'll let me pick up from where I left off, too. I mean--wut

Anyway, thank you everyone for always being so kind, patient, and overall just fantastically great people. I love you all and I will miss you lots. I'll try to keep my Plurk better updated so we don't fall out of touch. :3 Take care everyone. See you in Plurk for the time being! Always feel free to keep in touch and reach out to me. HI. This is Jim with character number 5! Chewbacca the Wookiee.

He's being brought in from Disney Infinity, Rise Against the Empire. It's a pretty fun game that smooshes the original 3 Star Wars movies into one shorter experience. As such, the story is a little different in the whens and the wheres of how things take place, but the key points of the story are still close. I summarize the game in my application if you want any more info on how he might be different to the Movie version you know and love.

A few quick notes: I am fine with fourth walling. If your character is from a world where they may have seen him in The Star Wars, I am down for some 'wait what' reactions. That is fine. Please do not, though, spoil that One Part in Episode 7 for him. You Know The Part I Am Talking About. That much, I'd like to keep him ignorant about for now. (If you actually don't know what I'm referring to and you don't care about spoilers, ask me and I will PM you about it so that anyone who hasn't seen it yet will not be spoiled.)

Secondly, as in the movies and games and every other bit of media with Wookiee in it... he does not speak Basic. Er. English. So. Expect a lot of 'HRRRRRAAAAAUUUUGGGH?' and hand gestures and notes written in letters and words that are strangely like English for coming from a galaxy far, far away. If it's necessary, I'll quote him in English using Italics so that you'll know what he's saying, even if your character will not. He can totally understand you, though! You just may not be able to understand Shyriiwook.

ANYWAY I hope you guys have fun playing with him!

Welcome Home, Smash!

Hello, hello! The time is here, the time is now! Smash Rising's first log is up, and it is ready for you. Are you ready for it? Let's find out in this handy dandy plotting post for all your question and plotty needs.

First Off, Join the communities!
If you haven't joined the two new communities yet (smashrising and smash_network), please do so! You're going to miss out on everything if you aren't following these comms. It'd also be cool if you could toss your dudes in the sorting hat if you haven't yet, since we'll be assigning random houses in a few days for characters not yet on there.

...Not sure what we're talking about? You might want to check out our last mod post and get caught up!!

LET'S GAME.
In this log of new hopes and possibilities, your character can either wake up all on their lonesome or they can find themselves with another character in random locations! We highly encourage you to take this opportunity to branch beyond your usual CR and start off with someone new! In fact, you can sign up to be randomly assigned a 'roomie' and location if you find yourself indecisive!

And don't worry- characters with established CR will definitely be able to find each other. There's just a whole lot of mansion inbetween them.

Here's some details for you right off the bat- the mansion is really dumpy and kind of spooky. There's no electricity, but a lot of rooms have fireplaces (not lit) and it's dry at least. Characters can go outside! Characters that are outside can go inside! Characters will probably want to find out where they are and see if they can't find any clues to what's going on.

Use this post to ask questions and plot things out!

Hey. So. My name is Gato. Way back on livejournal before they betrayed us all, I played Ashley from a DS game called Trace Memory, which, if you haven't played, should definitely do so because it is awesome. I think I was also Ness from Earthbound for some time as well.

But now. I have returned. With! Improved writing skills! A Wii U! And the most handsome skeleton to ever date anyone with no standards- PAPYRUSSSSSSS! ~~But seriously guys, Cloud is so broken I love it so much.~~

I have an opt out for spoilers on his blog if you haven't played Undertale yet and YOU SHOULD PLAY UNDERTALE BECAUSE COME ON. Also I saw a sans post and he was using comic sans in the comments, so, if anyone could tell me how to do that I can then 100% the coolness that is this skeleton, thank you.

The Big Post of Big Changes

Hello Smashies! You might have already noticed, but we're well on our way down the path of transitioning! Things are changing, and we're here to get you in the loop of what's going on. You might want to grab a drink, we've got a lot of stuff to cover in this post.

Final Showdowns, Welcome to the Sky!
Once the final log has been up for a little while and everyone's had a chance to do what they want to do, we'll be ramping right up to our new home! But here's some options for your Blowing up the Moon needs:

Going into the doors of the clocktower lead you to... not the clocktower, as anyone who might have visited it before would notice. There is a staircase going impossibly high up, and if characters follow it up there they will find that it brings them right up to the moon. The tower certainly shouldn't be so high, but there they are! It'll take them a while to get up there though. But at the base of the stairs is also a set going down, impossibly down. It's not certain what is at the bottom, but it definitely goes deeper than the bunkers so it could be an option for characters looking to just skedaddle somewhere else.

Stranger still about this new inside is that there isn't any trace of where Master and Crazy Hands resided. In fact, no one has seen them for ages. They're not even the mod account anymore! What!

How mysterious. Characters are just going to have to hope for the best. Good luck, chums!

Things are Changing for the New!
Spoilers: Your dude makes it. Sorry to ruin that surprise for you. Unless, you know, they didn't... There's going to be a big log for the changeover in just a little bit (and a plotting post for it!), but we've got some things to sort out before we can get there.

After some discussion because of various circumstances, we decided that with the changeover we'd introduce new communities for the log and the network. Before you get alarmed, Never fear-- the old communities will stay right where they are for archival and backdating purposes.

For now, you can start joining smashrising and smash_network so that you're all ready to go when the change hits! Some of you have already started doing this so, gosh, you're on it!

Lack of Network
But as you might notice when you click on that network community, the system is down. More accurately, the system doesn't even exist anymore! This is one of the key changes to gameplay- there's no network. At least, not yet. When or how one appears is going to be entirely up to your in-game actions! There's just going to have to be a lot more direct interactions for the time being.

A lack of network means that our main community is switching up! The logs community will now be the central RP hub.

In lieu of a network, there will be another option available for characters to leave notes and messages to each other in the main foyer of the mansion: a handy, dandy bulletin board! While not the most discreet place to post passionate love letters, it's definitely useful for leaving warnings about the environment or letting someone know you're trying to get a hold of them. (Don't let that stop you from writing passionate love letters if that's what you want to do though. The world needs to know about your feelings.) The bulletin board will be available after characters settle in a bit.

Action Posts -> Logs
Since the main community has shifted and we have temporarily put the network on the backburner, that means we're making a slight shift with some of our posts! Quick [action bracket] posts are still totally welcome, but we're relocating them over to the logs community! We're doing this to keep the action in one place and put more emphasis on the network being for messaging, if/when it exists again. All this really means is that the only community you'll be posting in for a while is the main one.

Sorting Hat
~~We're turning the game into a Harry Potter AU because Bret insisted it was a 'really good A+ idea, totally solid, we're definitely doing it.'~~ We are not turning the game into a Harry Potter AU but we ARE introducing Houses to the lot.

Most of the residential sections of the mansion (aka your characters' new home on the island) are divied up into four unique houses based on Smash Bros. elements: Gunner, Brawler, Swordfighter, and Assist. These houses are meant to provide some instant CR for characters with similar traits, set up house challenges that might help people out later in the tournaments, and continue to provide the option of random room mates!

(On that note, characters are not required to live within their Houses' wing if they would rather room on their own or with someone specific.)

You can read more about the houses here, and there is more information about the wings of the mansion in the Settings page. House Status and Place of Living will be listed on the Taken page, once they are all assigned!

As you can see, we haven't really assigned anyone yet. This is where you come in! Please step right up to the sorting hat and input all of your characters for us once you've read up on things, and we can get them all divied up.

DLC Characters Leaked! CONFIRMED!!
Another important note is that we've expanded our acceptable characters' list! If a character appears in a video game, they're good to app as long as you follow the game's canon! The rest of our requirements are the same, which you can check out right here. So, if you were really enamored with good ol' Lincoln in Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., he's, uh, totally appable now. If you wanted. You never know when the aliens are coming back, y'know?

We'd like to ask for some Favors
So that was a whole lot of new stuff to go over! As we noted in our last post, this opening is going to be a soft-launch. We want to make sure we get the kinks out of the system before we bring the game back to the mass public, and to do that we'll need the help of your fresh eyes! If you could take a little bit to go over the game pages and see what's new, us over here at the mod table would really appreciate it.

If you have any questions or suggestions for things we could improve, please don't hesitate to bring them up! We'd love to be able to add things to the FAQ or just rework something if it's too unclear. This is your game as much as it is ours, and this is our chance to really polish it up.

We'd also like to ask you for some suggestions on who you really want to get placed on the ATP ad for when we're ready to go live! Our current ad is a bit unwieldly, so we'd really like to trim it down with characters that you really want.

We'd also also like your opinion on the dressing room! Nowadays it is a common trend for games to put up a Test Drive Meme for their game every so often as opposed to having an entire community dedicated to this. Our DR hasn't seen too much action lately (though we realize that is because of various circumstances), so we'd like your opinion: should we keep the DR or would you like to try out the test drive meme option? Not everyone really uses the DR, so would you be more motivated to help test things out if it were in a concentrated meme format? Is it just easier to have one place for people to come at their leisure? Please let us know your thoughts!

Opening Log!
We're very excited to embark on this journey with all of you, so we'll end this huge post with something to look forward to. We're giving the closing log a bit of time to do what it needs to, but we know a lot of you have been waiting for the new things on the horizon. With that in mind, the opening log for the new communities will be up by January 15th, with its plotting post quick on its heels!

Thanks for all of your patience while we were getting things ready to go, everyone. It means a lot to us, and we're so hype to finally be able to say IT'S HAPPENING.

Happy New Year, Smashables!

A few things of note:

● Activity Check! We're not doing one in December. Considering it's the Holidays and everyone has a bazillion things on their plates, December is a No AC Zone in perpetuity henceforth and so-on forever and ever. Sorry about the late heads-up. From this point on, AC will be routinely set for the 20th of the month and last till the end of the month. Some months you will have less days to fill AC, some you will have more, but it will be at the very least 8 full days which isn't so bad, right?

● Plot Relevant Things.
- The Moon is pretty much right there. It's been getting bigger slowly over time, almost unnoticeably, day to day. But now, earthquakes are more common, high tide is swamping FDC and a good portion of the city has evacuated for higher ground. Which means places on a mountain. Which means The Academy.
- All four Masks have been recovered from Garret, there's a door they go into and what does it do....? We'll have to find out! There's also a wedding planned at the clock tower between Flurrie and Eggman! With all those people and the masks gathered at the clock tower, that will open the doors (Literally.) for the final battle between Academy and Moon.
- So, if you had plans for destroying and/or waylaying the Moon, there will be a log for those. Want to get Super Huge and smash the thing? Go ahead! You have enough fire power to break apart a celestial body? Go for it! Planning to summon meteors and/or punch the stupid moon in its big ugly face? That's a thing you can try! If you have questions or need Moderator support for a plan you want to put into action, let us know here!

● Game Change Over
It's all ready to go when you guys are! It's been a long (Long.) time coming but everything is done. We'll be implementing the full change over on the 7th and running the game without substantial advertisement or promotion for a few weeks to ensure that all changes implemented are workable. There are a lot of setting changes, rule changes and changes to the functions of certain things that we want to be sure work. Testing must occurr. There will be cake. So, in essence it will be sort of a soft re-launch.

Jeff here, and with Mac gone, so too goes Daisy. She's been an absolute blast to play, but like Mac, her story has reached its end, and now all that's left is for ~~Mac to faint when meeting the King~~ them to go home when the disaster ends, and to live a happy life as they've earned.

I'll still be around though, because YOU WILL NEVER BE RID OF ME.
