Part of me wondered if holding these whacky or special sorts of events would be better suited to the calendar. I was actually talking with Prince, Bret, and Toni on a bus ride about this and my concerns were that it might take away from the dorm logginess and it might be better to just... suggest ideas for the month ahead. However, this "just put them on the calendar" thing, while it will give the calendar even more use, would essentially be "vote for small monthly gamewide events to happen, like personals!" and hoping for people to make posts about it. This might have worked if our community was more active and journals posts were more prolific, but as the game currently stands, we're not, and without a mod proactively posting the event in smash_logs or wherever, the event might just be a leaf in the wind. I'm also in the same line of thought you are with the compliments to the game. I'm just hoping for the best way to execute them, because it gave me more of a sense that YES, THINGS HAPPEN HERE.
It really is up to the person. At first I was worried that every post would just be an endless list of what's going on during each specific day or set of days, but it started to get less prevalent as more people sort of did their own thing. It was probably due to not really knowing how to take it at first. I think it worked out fairly well, and I got some good threads out of the prompts.
