HELLO FRIENDS, WELCOME TO SMASH ACADEMY'S FOURTH WALL WEEKEND EVENT!

GENERAL

What's a fourth wall event?
The Fourth Wall event is where people from other games, random characters, even players themselves, can interact with Smash Academy characters. It's a literal breaking of that invisible "fourth wall" that separates the game-verse from... the rest of the internet. (Answer lovingly ganked/modified from route_29!)

Who can post?
Including and not limited to: any character from any canon regardless if they are on our accept list or not, former characters, AU versions, duplicates; you name it, no apps required. You may also play as yourselves, other players, inanimate objects, your embarrassing sparkle dog OC from middle school, nyancat, what the heck ever. Remember, only currently accepted Smash Academy characters are able to make new posts, so any external accounts will need to reply to those posts as we won't be doing any comm accepts for characters not normally in-game.

When is it happening?
Fourth Wall Weekend will ICly take place April 27th-29th. However! We will be future dating logs a week in advance (to try and accommodate inevitable back-tagging), starting April 20th. You can check it out on the calendar if you're a visual person. The mods will throw up a couple of logs to get the ball rolling sometime Friday the 20th, and you are totally free to make more from there.

What you can and can't do:
Just because we are opening our doors and breaking some IC rules does not mean OOC rules should be broken. We still expect everyone to treat each other with the same kindness and respect as they would any other time. No flaming, no harassing, and despite the nature of the event, bans (temp or permanent) that have been enacted regarding previous players in the game must be respected.

Basically, don't be a dick. If you have encountered some dick, bring it to a mod's attention (regardless if you are in Smash Academy or not) and we'll try to resolve it.

ICly, there is really nothing you can't do. Just remember the golden rule of RESPECT women. We also understand an event like this may stretch the limits of characterization, so try not to sweat it if you think you're being OOC. AND if there's duplicates running around there might be a good chance for gratuitous munsterbation, and that is a-okay. This is an event we likely won't be repeating any time soon, so have lots of fun with it and make some awesome memories!

SMASH ACADEMY RESIDENTS

WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING AGAIN...?
April 20th is when logs can start going up, but we are future dating this event a week in advance so be mindful of the actual IC dates. Similarly and appropriately future-date your posts to April 27th, 28th, or 29th. You are of course more than welcome to do non-4th-wall stuff before, during or after.

So what is happening?
A wall in TD-17 (E.E.'s dorm, formerly Kyle's dorm) is going to crumble, revealing a time/space portal that dudes are going to come out of. If you want a little history on why "Kyle's Wall" is a thing, check out our previous info post.

Can my character try to go through this portal/fix it?
Yes and yes. If you try to walk through the portal you'll essentially be walking through the hole in the wall as if the portal wasn't even there. You don't go anywhere, you don't feel anything; nothing happens. You are more than welcome to have your character try to patch it up and if they can in fact, legit fix time/space anomalies, they can be the hero. All we ask is if that happens, it takes the length of the weekend to fix. In the event those circumstances do not play out, we do have a deus ex machina backup solution (possibly involving Arceus and ducktape), so no worries; things will go back to normal one way or another come April 30th.

What do I have to do?
Any posts made in smash_logs or smashacademy MUST. We mean MUST be tagged appropriately. This is how visitors will know where to post. Any posts made in smash-logs get the tag: * event - 4th wall weekend, and any in smashacademy get the tag: *4th wall weekend. Anyone outside of Smash will be limited to posting in the entries we make, so make sure you tag them right so they know where to post!

Other than that do what you crazy kids normally do and HAVE LOTS OF FUN.

What happens if my character finds out they're fictional and are otherwise mind broken forever and ever?
This is going to go hand in hand with the inquiry below it. The bottom line is that we trust you guys to be respectful of one another. If someone says they don't want to break too far beyond the fourth wall, try to respect that. Likewise, when making your posts, if you feel a thread is going in an undesirable (or desirable!) direction, feel free to make note of that in [OOC brackets]. Alternatively, check out our character permissions directory or see if the person you're playing with has any personal permission posts in their journal. Some people are going to be completely okay with all of the brain breakage that could come out of this. Other people? Perhaps not so much. So let's make sure we have fun with everyone and not at their expense.

Are my characters going to remember any of this/will any of this be considered canonical?
This is going to be for the player to decide. If your character wants to remember everything as having happened, then by all means, feel free to do so. If you don't want to play that out? Don't. Does it mean everyone else is going to believe that's what happened? No. Other characters may interpret yours as being a few cards short of a deck, a few sandwiches short of a picnic, a few eggs short of a chicken coop, et cetera. But we're not about to rain down on your parade. It could be a great deal of fun to play through the aftermath with a combination of characters who do and do not remember the events. Try not to limit yourself too much and just enjoy the mass influx of people we're sure to have visit.

Opt-out options
Say you're not interested in any of this, that's totally cool. This will be a very all-encompassing event, however, so your opt-out options will be limited to simply leaving the vicinity beforehand. It is spring break, so we are sure you (or your peers) could come up with a creative excuse why your character wasn't involved if you don't want them to be.

VISITORS

What the heck is going on why am I here?
You know how it goes; one minute you're minding your own business doing whatever you do and then you blink/wake up/stop being dead/whatever and all of a sudden you're sucked into another world. This world happened to suck you through a portal and into a... girl's dormitory? Yes. And if she's there, she's probably yelling at you to get the hell out.

Trying to leave the same way you came in is going to result in a whole lot of disappointment; you don't go anywhere, you don't feel anything; nothing happens. You are stuck here for the next three days. Hey, at least you'll be given free room and board on campus.

Where am I?
Assuming you didn't get pummeled to death by E.E., you will be immediately greeted with a mammoth boarding-school campus. The first thing you'll probably notice is the looming clock-tower. That's the main building where most the classes and (the unexpectedly accommodating) Headmasters are. Around it are other buildings and facilities you'd expect to see at a school; more dormitories, a library, a cafeteria, a hangar, gymnasium, greenhouse, cafe, and a state of the art fighting stadium, capable of highly advanced simulations. (Here is a very rough map of the campus area.) Beyond the school is a lush forest and a placid lake, which may or may not be filled with lake monsters. Not too far away are also Mountains of Convenience and Beaches of Convenience. The current weather is pleasantly warm and sunny; spring is obviously in bloom around here, evident from the plethora of flowers all around.

Beyond that is Final Destination City--a city that has basically whatever your imagination can come up with. A hospital/Pokemon Center, grocery stores, arcades, restaurants, bars, pubs, space ports--you name it, it's probably in FDC.

You are free to explore all these areas, infer/make up details, and do as you please in them. If it seems like a lot, you could always ask a local to show you around. If you don't want to be a bum and live in the woods for the next three days, or cough up cash to rent a hotel in the city, you will be provided with a free dormitory on campus.

What can I do here?
ANYTHING. Seriously, anything. You want to play tic-tac-toe, start a riot or speed date? Yes. Do it. Want to go fight some monsters (we have an Ursaring on campus named Nancy Fuk who is traditionally our cafeteria "lady", but he's always up for a match of bear wrestling wow this is old), angst in a corner, drive drunk and smash mail-boxes, sit around and hanky panky with your neighbors all day? Yes, please do. Whatever your little heart desires, go for it.

Pertinent to note: while this is clearly a school setting, it is spring break around here, and classes are not currently in session. Maybe you could check out the local beaches or go booze it up instead... Which, by the way, FDC's legal drinking age is 19. And it's not breaking the law if you don't get caught...

Where do I post?
Anything under these two tags: * event - 4th wall weekend for our logs comm smash_logs, and *4th wall weekend for our network comm smashacademy. Please do not post anywhere you do not see these tags or to any other communities, with the exception of youre_smashing which is our dressing room. That is open all the time to anyone for any reason, though we can't guarantee it will get much attention while this event is going on!

Why yes, yes you can and we would totally love to have you! Here are quick links for our acceptable series, taken, reserves and apps. Activity done during this event can be used in application samples. Whether you want to use the event as a canonical introduction or not is entirely up to you.
