Although Smash Academy has no shortage of mysteries to continue to solve, following the destruction of the Shadow Bug invasion and the investigation of the bunkers beneath academy grounds, Smash and Final Destination City alike have fallen into a remarkably convenient sense of 'peace.' All good things must come to an end, however, and that time is now.

For no reason in particular other than his own amusement (and education), Soryk's finally chosen to put his poison mastery to the Ultimate Test. While he's aware of what various effects Azeroth's plants may have on the inhabitants of his world, he's found a need to test the potency of the more local and oddly common flora in the nearby forests (both before and after the explosion).

The only effective way to do this in his opinion, is to experiment with a variety of dosages in the food and beverage supply of Smash Academy's cafeteria, student kitchens, faculty kitchens, and vending machines. This certain troublesome and flamboyant elf has been spending his free time—when not in class—grinding down leaves, petals, and seeds for use of mixing into solid food and some not-so-solid drink.

As of Monday, September 1st, the subspace rift is closed.

◎ An intrepid group led by ROB discovers Professor Hector's subspace research deep within the island's laboratories, enabling them to reverse the effects of the subspace bomb and seal up the rift. The how will be backdated, for anyone who still wants to take part.
◎ With the closing of the rift ceases any and all dimensional breakdowns--subspace portals disappear, shadow bugs retreat into the bunkers, and alternate universe versions of characters become themselves again.
◎ Stray subspace monsters can still be found wandering the city, but with nowhere to return to, it won't be difficult to finish them off.
◎ Though Master Hand is, of course, always available for your NPC needs, Luigi has gone back from whence he came, taking the secrets of his universe (and its potential relationship to the school) with him. Mods will still tag both his post and Master Hand's open thread, however, if you're still looking for answers! We'll backdate this for as long as we need to.
◎ All is well.

And not a moment too soon, because classes resume Monday, September 8th, with one big change.

◎ The Island of the Ancients will remain a permanent part of Smash's setting. It will continue to float above the school, and is open for any and all manner of adventures. Though the subspace monsters will eventually dissipate from the city, they will remain on the island, so adventure cautiously! All other details regarding labs, bunkers, etc. on the island set forth in this post and the event log will apply indefinitely. Who knows what you might find?
◎ That said, the overarching mystery of why this happened and how it relates to the school is still available for investigation, however, characters who return to the bunkers will find that the room full of subspace bombs can no longer be found. All bunker details set forth in this post still apply.

Business continues as usual. All strange happenings set forth in the July plot post still apply, and can continue to the end of the event. HOWEVER…

◎ For the first two weeks of August, the aforementioned strange happenings will increase in degree and frequency.
◎ The occasional rifts in the sky now coalesce into a larger, more permanent fissure.
◎ The shadow bugs are more aggressive than ever, cloning whatever they can. Characters overwhelmed and cloned by shadow bugs are left unconscious while the doppleganger runs around wreaking havoc. Mods will not play these dopplegangers--they will be player responsibility, should you choose this route. The originals will wake up after a few hours, but that doesn't mean the duplicate will vanish. They will need to be defeated (or not).
◎ As stated in the dorm log, the subspace bubbles have begun to become actual portals, providing passages between different parts of the school and the city. Occasionally, these portals lead to places not of this world at all. It is advised to exercise extreme caution when entering those portals, as you might find yourself running a gauntlet of subspace enemies and booby traps before finding a portal to take you back home. Getting lost finding your way around the areas is a distinct possibility. At this point, characters can encounter any enemies listed here, including Galleom and Duon.

Again, all of these effects are optional--characters can get lucky and remain completely unaffected if this is not your bag.

On AUGUST 15th, a subspace bomb will (accidentally) go off on the outskirts of the school, consuming a large chunk of the forest. Here is what happens when a subspace bomb goes off.

◎ The resulting explosion opens a fissure that extends from the rift in the sky straight down to the depths of the bunkers (where there has probably been a rift all along), creating a permanent (for now) purple tear in the fabric of reality that…
◎ Allows for shadowy monsters to enter the city proper. The city is not overrun all at once, but it's clear that if something isn't done soon, the rift will get larger and the dimensional barrier will continue to break down until it's past the point of no return.
◎ Master Hand will, of course, make an attempt to rally the students, so that might be a good time to finally confront him--or, perhaps even…Tabuu?**
◎ The school will act as a stronghold throughout the attack, in the event that you don't want your character to fight or encounter monsters! They're concentrating their efforts on the surrounding area, almost as if they're reluctant to attack the school itself...

Four days later, on AUGUST 19th, something else will emerge from the gaping subspace hole in the sky.

◎ The island, which is easily accessible by pretty much anything or anyone that can fly, floats almost directly over the school. It's (of course) crawling with subspace monsters, but there are ruins to explore. The island even has a bunker system of its own, which can be reached through tunnel entrances on the surface.
◎ More details will be revealed mid-August, once the island appears. Keep an eye out for help from unexpected places.

The end goal of the event is, of course, to close the rift, and maybe solve the mystery of this crazy school, while you're at it. How this is accomplished is, of course, up to all of you. There will be a follow up post at the end of August with plot-wrap up and aftermath--though what kind of aftermath depends entirely on what your characters choose to do!

As always, players are encouraged to ask mods about what might occur should their characters take certain courses of action. The sky is the limit, but there might be consequences! Feel free to ask any questions here, or contact us privately.

GENERAL

What's a fourth wall event?
The Fourth Wall event is where people from other games, random characters, even players themselves, can interact with Smash Academy characters. It's a literal breaking of that invisible "fourth wall" that separates the game-verse from... the rest of the internet. (Answer lovingly ganked/modified from route_29!)

Who can post?
Including and not limited to: any character from any canon regardless if they are on our accept list or not, former characters, AU versions, duplicates; you name it, no apps required. You may also play as yourselves, other players, inanimate objects, your embarrassing sparkle dog OC from middle school, nyancat, what the heck ever. Remember, only currently accepted Smash Academy characters are able to make new posts, so any external accounts will need to reply to those posts as we won't be doing any comm accepts for characters not normally in-game.

When is it happening?
Fourth Wall Weekend will ICly take place October 31st - November 1st. However! Please feel free to future and back-date to your heart's content.

What you can and can't do:
Just because we are opening our doors and breaking some IC rules does not mean OOC rules should be broken. We still expect everyone to treat each other with the same kindness and respect as they would any other time. No flaming, no harassing, and despite the nature of the event, bans (temp or permanent) that have been enacted regarding previous players in the game must be respected.

Basically, don't be a dick. If you have encountered some dick, bring it to a mod's attention (regardless if you are in Smash Academy or not) and we'll try to resolve it.

ICly, there is really nothing you can't do. Just remember the golden rule of RESPECT. We also understand an event like this may stretch the limits of characterization, so try not to sweat it if you think you're being OOC. AND if there's duplicates running around there might be a good chance for gratuitous munsterbation, and that is a-okay. Have lots of fun with it and make some awesome memories!

• CATBALLS AND ROBOTS CONCLUSION

Just in case you missed it because you were too busy fighting robots or crushing hearts, it was televised and viewable here for everyone. After a long and intense battle, Eggman defeated Seth. Seth's body, in a very Akira fashion, became too unstable from the strenuous fighting and trying to act as a medium for the shadow bugs, and exploded into purple goo/dissipated in the air. It was real gross but victory was Eggman's. YAY...?!

With Seth's defeat, everyone who was catball'd was released from their spherical prisons, and their clone bodies similarly dissipated into the air. The real characters might awaken somewhere behind ~~the Rocket Game Corner~~ a casino, in various states of confusion. Stumbling back to Smash Academy shouldn't be too hard. That still leaves people who were robotisized as a problem, however.

FEAR NOT!

Mayor Tabuu (the real one) now free from catballs, will make an appearance.
"Citizens of Smash Academy, you have my deepest gratitude. The student you knew as Seth Richardson was a very dangerous individual. His real name was Warren, and his devices were powerful enough to imprison even me. Without your help I dread to think what could have happened.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik has also far overstepped his boundaries in my absence. His crimes are grave and wide and merit punishment. ...However, thanks are also in order for him and for his heroic efforts in taking Warren down. For that, he is sentenced to 300 hours of community service, and must unrobotisize everyone and return them to normal.

I also insist Headmaster Hand extend your summer vacation and grant everyone an extra week off to rest and recuperate before resuming their studies. You will be financially compensated by me personally as thanks."
If you haven't tagged in yet, or just got started, or are in the midst of backdating PLEASE don't feel discouraged and keep doing your thing. There is also a HOSPITAL LOG up for those who were hurt in the scuffle! If you didn't get your robot parts beat out of you, de-robotisizing might take a few days given the sudden volume/possibility of machine sabotage and repairs, so feel free to use that as compensation for backtagging if you want. Either way, everyone should be back to normal by the time classes start up again.

• ATP + other Smash stuff + SDR2 translations + spoiler etiquette

· As you may or may not know, app_this_plz just recently went up! ATP is a once-a-month post that occurs the last Saturday of every month at 7pm EST sharp and is an EXCELLENT WAY to look for and enable castmates! Smash's game advertisement is here (THANK YOU AGAIN FOR POSTING IT FOR US, PRINCE!) if you want to utilize that in your enabling. Just remember to be courteous of preferences, check to see if the character is appable, and follow the rules of ATP.

· Personals just went up and the calendar has been updated! Important date to note: Classes start Sept. 9th!

· There is a Detention log up for anyone ~~who blew up and got banned from the pool party~~ needs it, running all month.

· A question was recently brought to us regarding Super Dangan Ronpa 2 and its eligibility to be apped. As the current unofficial translation/Let's Play of SDR2 is incomplete and widely reported to take many creative liberties at the expense of characterization, we've decided to bar SDR2 characters from being apped for the time being. Once the Let's Play has been finished, or if there is another (complete) less controversial translation of the game that can be cross-referenced for ICness, then we will allow SDR2 characters to be apped. Sorry!

· In Smash we do not have a formal etiquette regarding spoilers (exceptions being certain canons ~~Pokemon~~ that are hugely anticipated in Smash which we handle on a case-by-case basis), but it should go without saying to please try and to be considerate to your fellow players. Please use the «cut» tag in your applications, or provide an opt-out permissions post if it's a canon that's big and current and popular and full of spoilers. As moderators, we get all kinds of spoiled reviewing applications regardless, so don't worry about us. Just use your best judgement and be courteous to your fellow players!

Here's what's going down: in the near future, Lyra will be announcing a charity bake sale as a sort of goodwill gesture between humans and nonhumans. What she doesn't know, however, is that Bowser is going to be slipping some Magikoopa dandruff or something into the flour. (Eeeewww.) Anyone who consumes these tainted baked goods or accidentally inhales too much flour during the baking process or whatever will find themselves slowly transforming into something that's very much not their species at all. What they turn into and how quickly they turn into it is entirely up to you, of course, and participation is super optional. If you want full-on body horror with a slow mutation from man to Weedle, go for it. If that squicks the heck out of you, feel free to play a less ick version.

Want your human to start sprouting feathers while their arm bones painfully rearrange themselves into wings? Go for it! Want your Jigglypuff to gradually grow four rows of teeth as they begin to morph into a shark-lanturnfish-lamprey? Sure, why not? Want to have fun with primal instincts, territoriality, and a thirst for prey taking over? Run wild. Want your grumpy big bad to deal with the realization they are turning into a fluffy baby duckling? YES.

Officially, the event will be starting on June 28 and running for roughly a week, but Jeff and our best buddy Eggman might have a thing or two up their sleeve, so there's also the possibility that things could last even longer if you want to drag out the transformation process.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post for questions and general plotting purposes. If you're having trouble deciding what you'd like your character to be morphing into, there are plenty of real world/mythological creatures out there, as well as lots of Smash canons to use!

No blowing up department stores without coming to us first.)

GREETINGS, SMASHERS

FIRST OFF a brief change to the rules!

We've had some questions recently about apping from internet games. After some debate, we've decided that yes, characters from internet games will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Mods reserve the right to reject apps based on the amount of information available, and "characters" from truly content-less games (i.e. Angry Birds, Robot Unicorn Attack) will not be accepted. The new rules are on our acceptable series page if you'd like to take a look.

SECONDLY

As some of you might know, we're quickly coming up on SPRIIING BREAK (March 25th - March 29th) and we think it's high time for a SCHOOL TRIP. We've had school vacations to a variety of locales, but we think it's time to revisit an old favorite: THE HOT SPRINGS.

After the fateful Hot Springs of Youth Fiasco of '08, the Headmasters have decided that maybe they should choose a different resort. It has all the amenities, of course, and students will be put up for the entirety of the break should they choose to attend this shenanigans-free weekend.

(Spoiler alert the springs are still cursed.)

We've had a lot of suggestions for GENDERBEND 2.0, so that's what we're planning on! The resort's main springs are completely normal, but down a beaten path is a secluded spring that will curse you for about a week. The trip will ICly run from March 25th - March 29th, with a log going up the weekend of the 23rd. Being cursed is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL. Additionally, students do not have to go on the trip--campus will remain open through break.

BIG APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY but here we go: a summary of what's happened so far and FUTURE PLANNING below...

If you're interested in having your character get involved with anything, by all means PLEASE DO. This has been on-going and slow-burning and you are never too late. The links I outlined above should be comprehensive enough, and if not I'll gladly answer any questions and throw some ideas out in the plotting threads.

Also if you have NO INTEREST in this plot, that is A-OKAY! I've done my best to construct it in a manner that provides a lot of hooks and motivations while keeping most of it contained off campus and all this is still easily avoidable and ignorable if it is not your shitck. So don't feel like you have to be involved or give it recognition. JUST KEEP DOIN' YOUR THING, MAN.

EVENT INFORMATION

This was suggested a while ago but we felt it was in poor timing. NOW, THE TIMING IS GOOD.

TIME FOR A BLACKOUT. It'll be just a little mini-event but starting this Friday, January 18th, there will be a series of unfortunate and extenuating circumstances that will bring the downfall of technology to Smash Academy, and everyone will be snowed in for the weekend, as seen on the updated calendar. More details will be given once the actual log goes up but for now here's the skinny:

• January 18th-20th the school will be WITHOUT POWER. That means no electricity, no heaters, no hot water, no TV, no gadgets, no gizmos, no network. The school's backup generators will work for only about an hour before mysteriously failing. The power will eventually be restored (and generators fixed) through FDC Power & Light.

• That won't happen until Monday morning however, as Mother Nature ~~aka a wild and disgruntled Castform andor Articuno~~ has decided it hasn't snowed nearly enough this season. Throughout the week the weather will be white and blustery until there's a full-fledged blizzard bearing down on the Academy by the weekend. Nobody in their right mind will be out and about in that weather until it passes.

You'll be snowed in and without power for a few days, Smash Academy. Better keep warm.
