[MINI EVENT] It's a Poisonous Life

Although Smash Academy has no shortage of mysteries to continue to solve, following the destruction of the Shadow Bug invasion and the investigation of the bunkers beneath academy grounds, Smash and Final Destination City alike have fallen into a remarkably convenient sense of 'peace.' All good things must come to an end, however, and that time is now.

For no reason in particular other than his own amusement (and education), Soryk's finally chosen to put his poison mastery to the Ultimate Test. While he's aware of what various effects Azeroth's plants may have on the inhabitants of his world, he's found a need to test the potency of the more local and oddly common flora in the nearby forests (both before and after the explosion).

The only effective way to do this in his opinion, is to experiment with a variety of dosages in the food and beverage supply of Smash Academy's cafeteria, student kitchens, faculty kitchens, and vending machines. This certain troublesome and flamboyant elf has been spending his free time—when not in class—grinding down leaves, petals, and seeds for use of mixing into solid food and some not-so-solid drink.

What does this mean, exactly? A few things (please see below). Those who have eaten lunch in the cafeteria, maybe raided the student or faculty kitchens for a late night snack, or like a little breakfast at the break of dawn are likely guilty of ingesting some contaminated goodies. Basically, any and all food or drink procured on academy grounds has been tampered with.

How long will this whole process last? This will start November 14th and continue until about December 12th. While not meant to be particularly prominent, it's just a way to fill in the time for upcoming Kisstletoes next month and other exciting occasions. A perfect event if you want a character to get 'sick' and endure some comforting / fluffy CR.

Will this affect everyone? No. Of course not. Consider this an opt-in ongoing event at your discretion. Some people may react quite strongly to the variety of poisons while others may not even bat an eyelash. Naturally different individuals have a different immune system than others. We also have a variety of characters (poison Pokémon, for example), who will probably find themselves feeling more... rejuvenated than in harm's way. It's really up to you regarding severity—if any kind of change should be experienced.

Something to consider: The dosages are going to start out small. It'd be no fun for him if Soryk immediately went for the throat. As the days and weeks progress, he'll be monitoring everyone very closely and adjusting applications as he finds necessary. So as dosage increases, you can safely assume symptoms may become more noticeable, severe, or more... 'life threatening.'

What should you expect if your character gets down with the poison party? Your choice of a plethora of options: burning, tingling, or numbness of the mouth; gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and other TMI related issues); heart palpitations or cardiac distress; hallucinations (of varying degrees); depression; watering of the eyes; headaches; and blurred vision.

Are these incurable? Heavens no. Again, depending on severity—different strokes for different folks. For some, a little rest will have characters up in a day or so. Some might need to visit the infirmary. Perhaps employ the use of some magical artifacts if you have them.

Are the poisons contagious? No. Characters inflicted by some kind of poisoned state have no fear of spreading that contamination to others. Infections will be confined to the character infected.

Is Soryk going to kill anyone? No. Not unless you want him to (maybe an innocent NPC comes to visit the academy unknowingly...). The poisons he's using are generally not lethal, and those that are, are only in the event that an extremely high amount is applied to the victim. The worst thing that could possibly potentially happen would be to suffer a coma, but the chance of that is improbable through natural means. (Certainly something plausible and workable should that be a path you'd like to take.)

Can you investigate the food or drink? Why not. Take it to the laboratory. See if you can detect the dosage. If Soryk's not considered the first suspect, you could even go to him and see if he'll lend some assistance. The pieces are certainly there. Soryk might be careful—and he is—but he's certainly not invincible. I'm sure he's made an error or a miscalculation somewhere...

When/If Soryk is ousted. Can we beat him up or something? Yes. Mind you, Soryk's certainly not going to be bragging about his accomplishments, but you may very well find some of his notes and observations hidden somewhere in his classroom. Or if you're feeling especially gutsy, you can try braving his rather nice fortress in the forest and do some eavesdropping on the academy's Residential Eavesdropper.
