APERTURE ACADEMY PLOTTING IS GO
Anyone remember that small paragraph in Master Hand's post to the network, the one mentioning GLaDOS would be doing repairs to the school? Well, as you are all well aware of, both the con and the Love Hotel are technically over. Meaning the buses will be taking both students and staff alike back to the school. As such, you all will have the pleasure of seeing the remodeled academy! How lucky are you?
At first glance, the school will look pretty much the same, minus the giant Aperture Symbol around the school's name. However, all is not as it seems. The normal walls, floors, and most of the ceilings of the school will be replaced with Aperture Science Panels. All the normal doors in the academy will be replaced with these cooler doors and of course, there will be odd buttons lying about.
Oh...and there's also a lot of cameras in the school, watching your every move.
In a nutshell, what this means is that the school basically looks like Smash Academy and Aperture Science both got drunk one night and decided getting it on was a good idea...and this is the love child that followed that night of bad decisions.
Also, Miss GLaDOS is nowhere in sight. WEIRD, HUH?
ALSO BEFORE I FORGET: Here's a tip about the communicators: GLaDOS can hack them. HOWEVER, there are ways to prevent her from doing so (glitch in the systems, you found a way around it, dumb luck), but do specify that they are unhackable. Otherwise, you just might end up having a nice little chat with a not-so-nice AI.
HOW DOES THIS AFFECT MY CHARACTER?
When they first arrive, they will enter a large room with several pedestals, each one containing a Portal Gun , a pair of Long Fall Boots, and a communication device. In said room, the voice of GLaDOS will urge you over the intercom to take all the items, saying they're complimentary.
...unless you're Cave Johnson, Chell, or one of the Personality Spheres.
In Cave's case, he will pretty much be given free reign once the "fun" happens, because he is the CEO.
In Chell's case, she can kindly GTFO. GLaDOS doesn't want your dangerous mute lunatic kind here.
...unless Chell wants to stay, in which case LOL HAVE FUN TESTING.
The spheres will also have free reign, but GLaDOS will probably force Wheatley to do jobs he hates as payba-I mean...for science! You monster.
WHAT THEN?
After all this, things will be pretty normal for a few days. Students and staff are free to use the Portal Guns and Long Fall Boots at will, providing they don't break them. As for GLaDOS, she will gladly inform your character on how to use the guns and boots, as well as offer tips and generally NOT be a complete bitch.
HOWEVER, that won't last long. Once the 7th comes, her "nice" demeanor will start to fade, and once the 13th comes about, it'll be completely gone. Once gone, she'll proceed to put the school in lock down, and separate the students and staff, either by groups or by themselves. As they solve more and more tests, they'll eventually meet up again, as well as get closer and closer to GLaDOS' Chamber, where the tests will get more and more dangerous.
Don't worry though, you'll all be able to get a piece of her soon enough in a boss fight. Don't wanna spoil anything else for now though, so that's pretty much it!
WHAT IF I DON'T WANT MY CHARACTER TO BE A TEST SUBJECT?
Perfectly fine! This is an optional event (I wouldn't want to force anyone to do anything and I'm sure the mods feel the same way), so there's plenty of ways around it. Your character could simply not return to the school until after the event or they could tell something is wrong there and leave before the lock down.
HOWEVER, even if your character does not leave the school, there will still be ways out of the event, should you decide to back out last minute or simply wish to have your character lay low in the school and not be tested or seen by cameras. The way out will be Safe Zones. Despite designing the plans and making sure the school was build as she wanted it, there are still a decent number of places to hide. A good some of dorms, for example, will be able to be used to stay low in.
That said, the safe zones aren't just for people who opt out, they will be used by the character's who were signed up in order to get to GLaDOS, after testing. Keep in mind, if you did not sign up for the event, your character cannot participate in the final fight. They can, however, still talk with the people who are in it via the communication devices, as well as enjoy playing around with the Portal Guns and Long Fall Boots before things go crazy.
Also, GLaDOS will automatically not be able to see any of the threads posted by non-participants, and while replies by said non-participants should be limited, they are also unable to be seen by her.
WHEN IS THIS ALL GOING DOWN?
Glad you asked! Sign ups will be from today, the 31st of July, until August 6th! After that, the event will officially begin on the 7th and end on the 19th. Along the way, there will be a few fun surprises to mix things up a bit~
OKAY I GET IT. ENOUGH TALK, WHERE'S THE SIGN UPS?
Right over here:
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or the like, feel free to ask them below!
PS: Also a reminder, this isn't like Wheatley Labs during the Time Eater event where once things are set right the dead will come back. If your character dies during this event they're really dead. That said, it doesn't mean if your character messes up during a test that they'll die, they can totally be saved if you want.
It's just that, if you write out them dying they stay dead. I just want to make that clear!
Re: Questions, comments, concerns, etc
So, what I'm saying is, this is pretty great.
What I'm really saying is, can there be a new mech suit somewhere for Max to wear and break every wall with?no subject
Or he could stay in a test chamber until GLaDOS gets the circuits knocked out of her. That's totally fine.no subject
Max will punch through every wall. He is Max.
And he's been spending the last ~2.5 years offscreen learning everything about metal.
Every wall.
no subject
Yes good.
Max, you can do it. Break the unbreakable. Punch the unpunchable. Row row, fight da powah.
