I never thought I'd see the day that Funcom/Tornquist would appear in the silly RP I was a part of.

I think you totally should play The Longest Journey. It's wonderful and magical and one of the best point-n-click adventures ever and aaaahhhhh.

Unfortunately, I felt like Tornquist really dropped the ball with Dreamfall (The Longest Journey's "sequel" game) though. It kind of ruined what The Longest Journey had built up. So if you happen to know Crow from Dreamfall just know that mine is not that one...

Anyway! I'm super excited to get Crow rolling. And I can't wait for CR with Cid. I feel they'll get along quite swell. :]

I know Ragnar from his MMO work. Loved Anarchy Online, and loving The Secret World. Think Dreamfall Chapters will be a return to glory? Too early to tell?

Cid is not hard to get along, despite what he may try to put on.

I feel it may be too early to tell for Dreamfall: Chapters. I'm basically not getting my hopes up, but still giving it some slack to redeem itself. I'm definitely not excited though. According to Tornquist, he felt that Dreamfall was a "great success", which makes me concerned that he won't try to change anything when Chapters rolls around...

Oh no, I feel a rant coming on. Incoming.

I understand that point-n-clicks aren't the style of gaming anymore, but I felt that Funcom was trying to do SO MUCH 'COOL NEW STUFF' with the XBOX engines at the time that they completely lacked in storytelling and character development. They entirely skipped over the hard work of making a good story out of it.

"LOOK AT ALL THESE GRAPHIC THINGS AND INTERACTIVITY AND THIIIINGS~" says the overconfident Funcom.

And Dreamfall even brags that you can play as all three 'main characters' too. Except Zoe (the MAIN girl) is basically the lead role for a large majority of the entire game. They completely changed April Ryan's character from the first game and, in return, made a not-very-interesting-at-all totally-typical-teenage girl as the main character.

I once even timed April Ryan and the third 'main character', Kian, at a total of 30 minutes to an hour gameplay each, depending on if you skipped dialogue or not. Which is sad, because they were so much more interesting than Zoe Castillo. Even if April Ryan was technically a different character all together.

Dreamfall was just trying to be something too revolutionary for it's time (graphics- and interactivity-wise) that they lost their roots from The Longest Journey. Nothing connects and everything seems forced or changed or pointless and too fucking long.

Not to say that people can't like Dreamfall. It certainly was its own game with its own... style, I guess. I wouldn't judge anyone for liking it at all, but there are just countless flaws that cannot be ignored, even by a fan of the game. I just personally can't understand why they would enjoy it enough...

The fact that Tornquist can openly admit that Dreamfall was a great game and that he wants to bring back so many elements of it into Chapters just makes me entirely sheepish. I don't want to see Dreamfall elements in Chapters. I want to see The Longest Journey elements in Chapters. And the very idea that they decided to keep Zoe Castillo as the main character has made me upset so far.

Also, Crow will be a total shoulder-bird if Cid allows. It will be great.

Well, I will hold my own judgement until I get around to playing / constantly reading a walk-through, but you make good points. I've noticed about Funcom, they love to get in over their head. It was most apparent with how poorly the company itself is doing after The Secret World's release. They make good products, and there is obviously a lot of care put into them (for better, or for "ooh shiny" worse), but there's always something about their games that keeps them from being breakaway hits, or anything other than great things that never get off the ground. Too many "new things", again, better or worse.

Back on topic. /Cid can be an air pirate./ Hey Crow, wanna be a pirate?

To be fair, I haven't played other Funcom games personally. I do know of them but just haven't experienced them myself; I don't know of their effect or charms on the gamers. I'm just not sure that Dreamfall has any good qualities to outweigh the horrible ones to even make it considered a 'breakaway' hit or something that could 'get off the ground' on its own. Now if it had followed The Longest Journey more closely? I would maybe reconsider.


Crow does not appreciate things that fly without wings/ARE NOT BIRDS. /squint but maybe...

This would delight me though! He seems like an interesting guy~ Right off the bat I can see him and Izzy either being uncertain allies or a complete disaster. She shares the same hands-off approach, but she's not very... nice. Ha. Bulba is also likely for something, cause he's a nice guy and bakes a lot so mooching is definitely a thing that could happen. I COULD SEE THINGS HAPPENING WITH EVERYONE, REALLY.

Oh I forgot to mention Vianca is the librarian she is the librarian.
