HALLOWEEN 2014 HAYDANCE MASKDANCE AND COSTUME CONTEST!

OH YES it's Halloween time at Smash and we have not one but two awesome things going on this year to sate your every spooky need. 1) A mass mask-induced body-swap Halloween dance, 2) Flurrie's Halloween Costume Contest.

1) Starting this Sunday (the 26th) there will be the sudden addition of a new structure appearing a little north of the main building somewhere between open field and forest border If any curious investigators take a walk inside the barn they will at first find it inhabited with little more than dust and cobwebs, however, throughout the week the Headmasters and other helpful NPC type students and faculty (and maybe EVEN YOU TOO) will clean it up and slowly assemble the very rural interior decor; with haystack chairs, wooden tables, and the heavy scent of crushed autumn leaves that collect near the wooden entrance floor. At night, small lanterns and lights will be strung all over and make the barn look entirely inviting.

What is it doing here? The corresponding flyers all over the school might help clue you in. It's here for a Halloween Dance! The flyers note there will be tons of free food and drink (and more candy and sweets than you can shake a root canal at), but all this food and fun comes with one important caveat: you MUST wear a mask and a costume or you will not be allowed in. You can bring your own mask if you like, but if you don't have any, don't worry! Masks will be provided free at the door, courtesy of Sable and maybe some other creepy guy. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right...?

WRONG. MAGIC BODY-SWAPS ARE GONNA HAPPEN. Here's how it's gonna go down:

- Sign up here if you wish to participate in a random bodyswap.
- Signed-up folks will be randomly assigned and then the mods will send out a PM with instructions and a clue. Example: Your mask is the KEATON mask. (picture) Your spirit is in the body of [NAME/username]. You feel like you might be getting closer to realigning your body and spirit proper around a mask that is blue. There might be two or three blue masks out on the dance floor than you need to investigate.
- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30th FRIDAY, OCTOBER 31ST (sorry folks, some IRL stuff is happening) the dance log will go up. The PMS ideally will also go out around the same time the logs go up, or a little bit before.
- When the log goes up, the only requirement is that anyone who singed up for a mask MUST make a top-level comment with a description of the costume and mask they're wearing. It would be especially helpful, in this top level comment, to note if your body has any special abilities like super strength or is near-sighted or anything someone who has swapped would immediately notice.
- At the stroke of a magic hour on the 31st, the masks will STICK TO YOUR FACE and you WON'T BE ABLE TO REMOVE THEM. More unsettling, you will find your spirit/soul/mind/what have you in the body of another!
- The only way to remove the mask and get back in your normal body is to find and touch your "beacon" mask. It might be on the body of someone else entirely! If you can think of these mass bodyswaps like a chain, finding your beacon will break your proverbial link in the chain and realign your body and spirit proper. The rest of the chain will unravel as more people find their beacon masks and zoink back into their own body like magic.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: After discussion we felt this is kind of complicated and will probably be very confusing and impractical in practice so we're going to simplify this a little.
- THE MASKS ARE SPOOKY AND CURSED AND WILL CAUSE A SPIRIT/BODY SWAP.
- A list of swaps will go up Saturday, the 1st.
- You will simply swap with the person below you on the list. (If you're familiar with how some of the IC Secret Santa lists worked in the past, this is the same concept).
- It is still recommended to note if your body has any special abilities like super strength or is near-sighted or anything someone who has swapped would immediately notice.
- Spooky swapping magic will not be limited to the barn area. If you feel like taking your newfound body out on the town you can definitely do that.
- You just gotta find your body andor wait until midnight to swap back. This of course, is not in-character knowledge.
- If random swaps are not your thing that's fine but that will not be part of this event. You may wish to privately pursue Skull Kid (here or here) if you have a specific bodyswap desires in mind. He can make your nightmares come true.
- If you wish to opt-out, this is easily accomplished by bringing in your own mask or being a dirty heathen and not wearing one at all (which will get you kicked out of the barn if you get caught, fair warning), or avoiding the barn dance altogether entirely.
- Bonus round, DEADCAT WILDCARD: Warren of course would not pass up an opportunity to be an asshole and will see to it that his mask gets slipped in the free masks, disguised as a different mask. If you get Warren's mask, you will not body-swap with someone else, and instead Warren will possess your body and do as he pleases with it for the night. Probably terrible things. (Note: This will only happen if we get an odd number of sign-ups).

2) As mentioned, Flurrie will be holding a costume contest in the school's auditorium. The Haydance Maskdance will take place later in the evening and will NOT overlap with this, so you will be able to participate in both. It would certainly be an excellent segue into Halloween Festivities.

Do characters' costumes switch, too? Otherwise couldn't you just remember what costume you were wearing and use that to find your own body? Or am I misunderstanding everything haha.

EXCELLENT QUESTION! Very good question.

The swap won't be as simple as A ↔ B. For example, let's say Ema's spirit gets swapped into the body of Phoenix. Phoenix's spirit gets swapped into the body of Edgeworth's. Ema might have to find Edgeworth's body to unravel the "chain" in order to get back in her own body.

The "masks" act as a beacon and goal, rather than the person's physical body.

I've tweaked the event info to reflect this so it's worded a little better. Let me know if it's any more or less confusing.

Alternatively, the spooky mask magic makes you forget what costume you were wearing.

Do you have to participate in the body-swap to be in the dance? Or can our characters just get a mask from anywhere?

You do not have to participate in the bodyswap to enjoy the dance! Just bring in your own mask and your character will not be afflicted by the spooky swapping shenanigans.
